he may decide to increase the cap to meet some but not all of any increased costs. He may provide additional grant-in-aid to the Corporation or may decide that the Corporation will have to find savings within the overall Barrage cap or abandon projects elsewhere in its Corporate Plan. And so on. But in TDS Nationwide any event, if he does raise the cap (whether supported by additional funding or not) it is expected that he must first outline his review in a statement to Parliament. Among the issues being debated at County Hall in recent weeks is a radical shake-up of the County Council’s 12 Area Committees, originally conceived to bring County Council meetings out of Truro and into local communities. The number of Committees will be increased from 12 to 16 to boost their relevance to individual communities. Another initiative in line with the aims of joined up Government is the County Council’s review of its property assets in the Camborne and Redruth area.
Faced with a portfolio of office accommodation which was outdated and inadequate, the Council has now resolved to begin a phased disposal of properties. The capital released by selling these off will be invested in refurbishing the visible properties, and creating new facilities for County Council staff, Camborne Town Council, youth services and a brand new Magistrates Court.
