August 22, 1989
– WRPCO re-opens its bid to reduce the
public use of the 100-foot strip. The
PCPOA intervenes and is successful in
retaining the: "Status Quo".
November 7, 1989
- The PCPOA intervenes in the
construction of the bridge on Highway
"Z" at Klein’s’ Creek on Castle Rock.
The PCPOA was successful in establishing
a 30-foot bridge instead of a proposed
20-foot bridge so two boats could pass
under the bridge without danger. In
conjunction with this intervention, "No
Wake" buoys are installed at Klein's
Creek and Buck Creek as well as a boat
launch and large parking area.
During
1990 WRPCO again tries to invalidate the
public use of the 100-foot strip. WRPCO
begins a shoreline stabilization program
and installs two new boat ramps per the
Recreational Development Plan.

Algae on both lakes
|
June 11, 1991
– The PCPOA joins other lake
associations and leads the
charge to: "Clean the Green"
on both lakes. This attempt was
successful and by the year 1997
these lakes should be free of
"Algae Bloom", except for the
algae that is produced by
nature. |
July 25, 1991 – The PCPOA is the moving
force to secure funding for a "Carp Hydro Processing Plant". A committee
of three branches of government, industry and lake associations is formed to
study the matter. This is still an on going process.
March 16, 1992 – The PCPOA intervenes
in the licensing process of Nekoosa-Edwards (now Georgia-Pacific). The
association is asking for new dams, a new recreation center and a clean up of
the old dumpsite below Nekoosa on the Wisconsin River.
September
2-9, 1992
– FERC issues the final order
on the 100-foot strip, which
allows the public to use the
strip for more than just walking
through. WRPCO is directed to
instruct the public as well as
the landowners behind the strip
on what they can and can’t do on
the strip. FERC upheld its
original decision. |

Annual PCPOA meeting
|
January 1993 - The PCPOA is
instrumental in securing DNR support for a "Comprehensive Management Plan"
on Petenwell and Castle Rock. The plan study will take two years and the results
will be available in 1996.
September 1993 the PCPOA re-intervenes
in the Wisconsin River Power Company (WRPCO) license and the Federal Energy
Regulatory Commission (FERC) grants the PCPOA "Intervention Status".
1994 – to date the PCPOA continues to
pursue with the DNR a new dam system on Georgia-Pacific’s three flashboard
Adams; Nekoosa, Port Edwards and Centralia.
October 1995 – Georgia Pacific
(Nekoosa Papers) files the
Recreational Plan for Nekoosa, Port
Edwards and Centralia Dams. The
PCPOA and DNR monitor and help shape the
plan. The Recreational Plan is accepted
by FERC in 1997.
May 20, 1996 – The PCPOA files its
Resolution at a public hearing in Tomahawk, WI to object to a license being
granted to the Crandon Mining Co. to open a sulfide ore mine in Town of
Nashville, WI. Exxon and Rio Algom of Canada own Crandon, both companies have
caused environmental disasters in the U.S., Chile and Canada. NO
sulfide ore mine has ever been successfully reclaimed anywhere in the
world. The PCPOA will continue to fight with the other grass-roots associations
in Wisconsin to stop Exxon.
